Founding member
Joana Mendes is Professor of European Public Law at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law, visiting Professor at the London School of Economics (LSE), and one of the managing editors of the European Law Open. She holds a law degree and a master’s in public law from the University of Coimbra, and a doctorate from the European University Institute.
Previously, she was associate professor at the University of Amsterdam. She obtained her doctoral degree at the European University Institute in 2009.
She is the author of:

“Allocating Authority. Who Should Do What in European and International Law" (co-edited with Ingo Venzke, Oxford University Press 2019)
“EU Executive Discretion and the Limits of Law” (edited volume, Oxford University Press 2019),
as well as various articles in EU public law published, inter alia, in the Modern Law Review, the Common Market Law Review, the European Constitutional Law Review and Transnational Legal Theory.
